Merlgen: Modern kitchen upgrade for a new home

It was a ready-to-move-in-home acquired after more than two decades of hard work in

the medical field locally and abroad. While the rest of the rooms in the new home fit the

family’s needs, the homeowner wanted more space for the room designated as the

most used space—the kitchen.

While the original kitchen is functional, it lacks the required space to fit the requirements

of the five residents. Additional cabinetry was needed, areas for large appliances, plus a

space wide enough to serve the residents.

“My sister owns the house. It was always her dream to have a big kitchen. We had a

small one in our previous home. We have large appliances we’re moving from our

previous home. We need space for that and for us. Most often there’s three of us using

the kitchen at the same time,” said the resident.

A new kitchen was in order. The backyard will be utilized to build a bigger kitchen.

Annexed to the house, the new addition will have easy access from the original kitchen

and dining areas.

The kitchen upgrade project is a tandem between two sisters, the homeowner working

abroad and the current resident of the house. Shopping for bespoke kitchen cabinet

manufacturers, the Bajada showroom of Merlgen Euro Designs was spotted.

The homeowner had design pegs for the new kitchen she wanted. From the wide array

of finishes for cabinets and countertops, the homeowner singled out the look and color

she wanted for the kitchen: two-toned look for a modern concept using high gloss finish

on the cabinet faces.

The kitchen will be predominantly in white. The light color will be used for the overhead

cabinetry and countertop. The gloss will exude a larger space. Complementing the

white gloss will be the high gloss silver grey faces of the counter cabinets.

The homeowner laid down her requirements: sufficient storage space— cabinets and

drawers to store items used daily and occasionally; a pantry; it should fit in the cooking

appliances; and a large countertop area.Merlgen presented the design proposal and upon approval, manufactured the

components and installed the new kitchen cabinets.

“My sister is very happy with the outcome even if it’s only the photos and videos she

has seen. She hasn’t come home since the start of the pandemic and she’s very excited

to see her new modern kitchen soon. Nag-ipon sya para mapaganda ang bahay.”
